Blepharoplasty

BLEPHAROPLASTY

Sagging eyelids make a person look older and may limit the eyesight. Eye lid lift, medically known as blepharoplasty, tucks the excess skin, eliminates the puffiness and fat under the eyes, and replaces a tired look with a more vibrant and youthful appearance

Indications:

  • droopy eyelids or excess skin on the upper lids
  • puffy lower eyelid "bags"
  • periorbital dark circles
  • wrinkles of the lower eyelids

 Duration of the procedure:

  • upper lid lift 30 minutes per eyelid,
  • lower lid lift 45 minutes per eyelid

Type of anaesthesia: local anaesthetic, possibly with a mild oral sedative

Outpatient treatment: Presentable with sunglasses after 2 days, without sunglasses after one week to ten days.

Operation

A personalized plan is required for each different person. The excess skin on the upper eyelid is measured precisely and removed with a narrow strip of muscle. Any prominent fatty tissue at the inner margin of the eye is also removed. The incision runs along the natural crease of the eyelid so that it will be practically invisible later.
A lower lid lift can be carried out by means of an incision along the edge of the lower lid or in the mucous lining. The bulging fatty tissue that causes lower eyelid puffiness is positioned back into place and the excess skin is removed. It is often advisable to combine an upper and a lower eyelift.

Additional procedures such as eyebrow lift for low eyebrows, face lift and rejuvenation for the wrinkles around the eye may be combined with eyelid lift.

After the operation:

Post-operative swelling and bruising will occur to some extent.

Apply cold compresses at the eye area

Apply arnica cream around the eyes twice daily avoiding the suture lines

Keep your head raised in order to reduce swelling

Sutures are removed after 5 – 7 days

Avoid strenuous activities and sports for 4 weeks
